Happy time always goes faster than miserable time or time to wait. But, whether your life is good or bad, many still believe that our time goes by faster than we want; that our lives are short. We really should enjoy it rather than take things too seriously. For many, it begs the question, are our lives really that short?
Lately, has anyone felt like life is getting harder everyday? There are hot-headed people on the news everywhere, using violence to solve problems, swearing at each other, or getting in a fight with knives or guns, just like that!
Naturally our brains often choose to remember negative memories. That’s because brains react to bad stuff better than neutral or positive ones. This is because, the human brain and mind has been designed to be aware of potential threat in order to trigger the self defense mechanism. It’s a survival instinct.
Wanting to quit smoking but having a hard time to convince yourself? Try writing down 10 benefits of smoking cigarettes. Chances are, you’ll struggle with the list, similar with the typical New Year’s resolutions.

Depression is on the upswing. That’s what I found on the news lately. We would imagine celebrities having such great lives but we don’t know what’s behind closed doors or the battles they’re in. From the statistics, World Health Organization predicted that in 2020 depression would be the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular disease.
In Thailand, depression disorder is on the top 4 watch list as it is on the rise. I never knew that depression was such a serious issue. The data also shows that depression is more complex than just a brain chemical imbalance. Relationship with family is a very important factor related to depression.
Family is the beginning of all things; from the moment we start learning, experiencing love and emotions, to develop and understand our identity. From the book called “Love Link, Family Link” by the Prime Minister’s Office of Women Foundation, it says that parents are important to the development of a child. Family relationships are the foundation of mental health.
Did you know that every step of the way, a child is influenced by parents. Young children learn by imitating parents’ habit, values, self-confidence, self-respect and self-esteem. Gender identity is also learned from father and mother. Responsibility, moral standards are also passed on through generations. So when you see a child, the way he is or how he behaves is a result of his upbringing. Some children are polite, kind and responsible.
Some are self-centered, jealous, lazy, irresponsible. We can see the difference from these two households as it reflects from how he/she was brought up and their relationship within the family. Sometimes I hear parents complain that their children don’t obey but take advice from friends rather than parents. Maybe parents can take this as an opportunity to review their own relationship with their children.
In addition, the warm relationship with family members acts like a shield to your soul. As we know it, there are many challenges in our everyday lives. They are around us! School, work, friends, money, relationship, you name it. It takes a strong mind to be able to deal with these situations and stay sane at the same time.
Good family relationship is like a shield, helping you to stay strong and positive throughout the day. The moment you step out of the house, you could be facing all kinds of problems like traffic, work, friends, or significant other. I bet you would want to come back to a warm home, not where everyone is negative and arguing. If a house is not a home. Then what else is out there to help you stay positive and happy?
On the contrary, you feel the breeze when you come home, cools you down from your daily battle. Your family is ready to listen, support you and laugh with you. That’s how you get a good night sleep, feel recharge and ready to take on your new day. If your relationship with your family is like this, your mental health will thank you. You would be strengthened emotionally. The world will never be too cruel for you, as you’re confident, there’s always a solution to many things. Let’s start from the closest thing to you, your family. Fill your family with love and kindness. You’ll be guarded against any obstacles out there or at least you’re not facing the world alone.
Our world is more connected than ever before. We are exposed to diversity. We see what’s beyond our community. We meet people with different backgrounds and different views. Today, there are many social movements that promote openness and acceptance in almost every part of the world.
I believe each one of us has a dream. Some of you may think that dreams are not reality. Some are tired working towards their dreams. But we have reason to not give up. Please don’t give up just yet. Let’s look at Jack Ma as an example.
You may have heard the term ‘special kids’ or ‘kids with special needs’ from media around you. I could only imagine the challenges parents of special kids have to face every day. ‘Special kids’ or ‘kids with special needs’ means any child who might need extra help because of physical, mental illness or learning difficulties, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, Visual Impairment, etc.
